Terms of use

These terms cover the Atlaroo app and this website. Atlaroo is made by GeoTales ("we", "us"). By downloading or using Atlaroo, you agree to these terms. Please read them with our privacy policy.

1. Who can use Atlaroo

Atlaroo is made for children aged 8 to 12, used with a parent or legal guardian. The person who subscribes, signs in and sets up the app must be an adult (18 or the age of majority where you live) and a parent or guardian of the children who use it. Kids play inside profiles a grown-up creates; they don't have accounts of their own.

2. Subscriptions and billing

• Atlaroo needs a subscription. You buy it inside the app through the Apple App Store or Google Play. The store handles the payment, and its own terms apply to the purchase.
• The plans are $7.99 a month or $59.99 a year (US prices). The store shows the price in your currency, including any taxes, before you confirm.
• Payment is charged to your Apple Account or Google Play account when you confirm, or when a free trial ends.
• If we change the price of a plan, the store will tell you before the new price applies, following its own rules, and you can cancel before it does.
• Refunds are handled by Apple and Google under their policies. We can't issue refunds for store purchases ourselves, but we're happy to help: see the support page.

3. Free trial and offers

• New subscribers can try Atlaroo free for 7 days. If you don't cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, the subscription starts and the store charges you for the plan you picked.
• From time to time we may run offers, such as 40% off the first year of the yearly plan for founding members. The app shows the exact offer, its price and how long it lasts before you subscribe. Offers may be limited to new subscribers and can end at any time.
• Trials and introductory offers are generally available once per store account, as the store decides.

4. Renewal and cancellation

• Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends.
• Cancel in your store account, not in the app: on iPhone and iPad in Settings, and on Android in the Google Play Store. The support page has the steps. You can reach the same screen in the app under Grown-ups → Subscription → Manage subscription.
• After you cancel, Atlaroo keeps working until the end of the period you've paid for.
• If a payment fails, we respect the store's grace period while it retries, so kids aren't locked out straight away.
• Deleting your Atlaroo account or the app doesn't cancel your subscription. If your subscription ends, we keep your kids' progress in case you come back, unless you delete it.

5. Family accounts

• One subscription covers every kid profile in your family, up to six profiles per account, on every device where you sign in with the same Apple or Google account.
• On a new device, sign in with the same account, or use Restore purchase, so you don't pay twice. A family account belongs to the grown-up whose Apple or Google account was used to sign in.
• The subscription is for your household's personal, non-commercial use. It isn't for schools, classrooms or other groups.
• You're responsible for the profiles you create and for keeping your Apple or Google account secure. Please use nicknames for kids, not full names.

6. Acceptable use

When you use Atlaroo, please don't:

• copy, resell, rent or redistribute the app, its expeditions, clips or artwork;
• try to get around the subscription, the parental gate or other protections;
• reverse engineer the app, except where the law allows it;
• interfere with our servers, scrape them, or access other families' data;
• use the app in a way that breaks the law or the store's rules.

We may suspend access for anyone who breaks these rules, after telling you why where we reasonably can.

7. Content and intellectual property

The app, Roo, the country characters, the expeditions, story clips, voice lines, games, text, artwork and the Atlaroo and GeoTales names are owned by GeoTales or its licensors and protected by copyright and trademark law. While your subscription is active, we give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app and its content for your family's own learning and enjoyment. Nothing in these terms transfers ownership to you.

Map data and other third-party material in the app are used under their own licences.

8. Maps and facts

Atlaroo is a learning game. Country shapes, borders, flags and facts are simplified for kids, and the map covers 175 countries rather than every country and territory in the world. Where borders or names are disputed, the app shows one simplified version and doesn't take a political position. Please don't rely on Atlaroo for navigation, legal, travel or official purposes.

9. Changes to the app

We keep improving Atlaroo. We may add, change or remove features and content, including expeditions. We plan a new expedition each month, but content can be delayed. If we make a change that significantly reduces what your subscription includes, we'll tell you in advance.

10. Disclaimers and liability

• We work hard to keep Atlaroo accurate, available and safe, but it's provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we don't promise it will always be available, error-free or suited to a particular purpose, or that it will improve school results.
• To the extent the law allows, GeoTales isn't liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for Atlaroo in the 12 months before the claim.
• Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer that can't be limited by contract, or our liability for things the law doesn't allow us to exclude.

11. Apple and Google

These terms are between you and GeoTales, not Apple or Google. If you got Atlaroo from the App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies, and Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app. If you got it from Google Play, the Google Play Terms of Service also apply to your purchase.

12. Ending your use

You can stop using Atlaroo at any time: cancel your subscription in your store account, and delete your data in the app under Grown-ups → Account → Delete account and data, or by emailing us. We may end these terms or your access if you seriously or repeatedly break them.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top and, for significant changes, tell you in the app or by email before they take effect. If you keep using Atlaroo after that, the new terms apply.
